Relying on the profound educational foundation of the college, the academic master's degree program in Information and Communication Engineering focuses on the frontiers of the discipline and industry needs, and has established a training system with distinct characteristics. This master's degree program originated from the master's degree programs in the secondary disciplines of Signal and Information Processing, and Communication and Information Systems, which were approved in 2000 and 2003 respectively. In 2011, it was upgraded to a master's degree program in a first-level discipline. Among them, the secondary discipline of Signal and Information Processing was selected as a key discipline in Hubei Province in 2001.

In terms of disciplinary directions, it has condensed and formed four core fields: oil and gas information detection methods and instruments, signal and information processing, intelligent control methods and technologies, and the theory and application of digital-intelligent integration. It closely combines with the needs of the petroleum industry to solve key technical problems. Relying on platforms such as the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the Institute of Artificial Intelligence, the discipline has a high-level teaching staff including ChuTian Scholars and Elite Talents, providing high-quality scientific research resources for postgraduate students.

In the training process, it emphasizes the combination of theory and practice. By participating in high-level scientific research projects such as major national science and technology projects and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, students' scientific research and innovation capabilities are improved. In the past three years, students have achieved excellent results in disciplinary competitions, published many academic papers, and obtained patents. Graduates have broad employment prospects. More than 20% of them have entered 985/211 universities for further study, and the rest have mostly joined well-known enterprises such as State Grid, Tencent, and Baidu. Some have become technical backbones in the industry.
