The School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering (SEIEE), one of the oldest academic units at Yangtze University, traces its roots to the Petroleum Exploration Instrumentation Program established in 1951 at Beijing Petroleum Industry Junior College, with a history spanning over seven decades. Currently, the School comprises 83 faculty members, including 42 Master’s Supervisors and 3 Doctoral Supervisors. It enrolls 2,100 full-time undergraduate students, 298 Master’s candidates, and 13 Doctoral students. Structurally, SEIEE consists of three academic departments (Electronics Department, Electrical Engineering Department, Telecommunications Department), a National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and one research institute (Institute of Artificial Intelligence). The School offers six undergraduate programs, including two National First-Class Majors, one Hubei Provincial First-Class Major, and one program accredited by the National Engineering Education Certification. Additionally, it holds two academic Master’s degree programs (Information and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering), two professional Master’s degree programs (Electronic Information, Energy and Power), and one Doctoral degree program (Oil and Gas Information Detection and Instrumentation Equipment).
For years, SEIEE has been committed to talent cultivation as its fundamental mission, teaching quality as its core focus, and scientific research as its driving force for development. Through comprehensive implementation of quality improvement and reform initiatives, the School has achieved remarkable outcomes:1 National Teaching Achievement Award (Second Class),2 Hubei Provincial Higher Education Teaching Achievement Awards (First Class) and 2 Second Class Awards,1 National Teaching Team and 2 Hubei Provincial Teaching Teams/Outstanding Grassroots Teaching Organizations. The school has established four specialized research teams: Oil and Gas Information Exploration and Instrumentation Equipment, Intelligent Control Methods and Technologies, Oil and Gas Signal Processing and Data Interpretation, and Digital-Intelligent Integration Theory and Applications. Faculty members actively engage in scientific research at all levels, leading 15 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 4 national key science and technology projects (tasks), and multiple industry-academia cooperation projects, with a total research funding approaching RMB 100 million. Over the past five years, they have published 228 high-impact academic papers, obtained 78 national invention patents (including 6 international patents in developed countries), 52 utility model patents, and received 4 provincial/ministerial-level scientific and technological awards.
Equipped with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and an open management model that fosters student innovation, SEIEE is dedicated to cultivating future-oriented "New Engineering" talents.
