The School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering is one of the teaching units with the longest history of running a school in the university. Its major in Measurement and Control Technology and Instruments can be traced back to the major in Petroleum Exploration Instruments of Beijing Petroleum Industry College in 1951, with a history of more than 70 years. Currently, the school has 83 faculty members, including 42 master's supervisors and 3 doctoral supervisors. There are 2,100 full-time undergraduate students, 298 master's students and 13 doctoral students in the school. The school has 3 teaching departments, namely the Department of Electronics, the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Telecommunications, a national-level Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and a research institute (Artificial Intelligence Research Institute). It has 6 undergraduate majors that are currently enrolling students, including 2 national first-class majors, 1 first-class major in Hubei Province, and 1 major that has passed the national engineering education certification. It also has two academic master's degree authorization points (Information and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering), two professional master's degree authorization points (Electronic Information, Energy and Power) and 1 doctoral degree authorization point (Oil and Gas Information Detection and Instrument Equipment).
Over the years, the school has always taken talent cultivation as its fundamental task, centered on teaching quality, promoted development through scientific research, and comprehensively implemented the project of quality improvement and reform, achieving fruitful results. It has won 1 second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award, 2 first prizes and 2 second prizes of the Teaching Achievement Award of Higher Education Institutions in Hubei Province. It has 1 national-level teaching team and 2 teaching teams and excellent grass-roots teaching organizations in Hubei Province. Teachers of the school actively undertake various scientific research projects at all levels. They have presided over 15 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 4 national major science and technology projects (tasks), and multiple school-enterprise cooperation projects, with a total contract funding of nearly 100 million yuan. In the past five years, 228 high-level academic papers have been published, 78 technologies have been authorized with national invention patents, including 6 invention patents in developed countries; 52 technologies have been authorized with utility model patents, and 4 achievements have won provincial and ministerial scientific and technological awards.
The school has good laboratory conditions and an open management model that encourages students' independent innovation. Guided by the goal of cultivating "new engineering" talents who can lead the future, it makes use of the experimental teaching model of "four combinations and one openness", attaches importance to the integration of science and education and the collaborative education between industry and education, adheres to the working concept of "Innovative Telecommunications, Leading the Future with Intelligence", and cultivates top-notch innovative talents.
Students of the school have won many awards in competitions such as the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Competition and the "Challenge Cup" Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Plan Competition, and have continuously won the honorary title of "Top Ten Undergraduates" of Yangtze University. Over the past few decades, the school has cultivated and transported a large number of professional and technical talents for society. Generation after generation of telecommunications students have adhered to the craftsmanship spirit to pursue their dreams, served the country with their technical expertise, and fought on the front line of the construction and development of the national information industry. They have sown the seeds of their youth on the vast land of the motherland, demonstrating the down-to-earth, dedicated and practical spiritual outlook of telecommunications practitioners.
